Lead Project Manager – Permanent Role

Salary: £60,000 – £85,000 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
We are currently seeking a Lead Project Manager to deliver critical upgrades to the UK’s National Electrical Infrastructure. This role involves full responsibility for delivering several complex, multi-discipline design and build projects, supporting and coordinating project managers and engineers, and ensuring successful execution across planning, engineering, procurement, commercial, and quality disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver multiple design and build projects up to £5m.
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate activities to meet project objectives.
- Ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled on time and within budget.
- Oversee commercial, technical, and quality aspects of the project.
- Create, maintain, and drive project programmes, tracking against key milestones.
- Register, compile, submit, and negotiate extensions of time, variations, and claims.
- Conduct project reviews to control progress, manage cost, identify deviations, and manage risk.
- Prepare detailed estimates in alignment with engineering standards and timeframes.
- Liaise with internal and external suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive quotes and relevant tender information.
- Positively contribute to project financial performance and control through innovation.
- Attend and contribute to kick-off meetings, site visits, team meetings, and tender review meetings.
- Maintain proactive client interaction and communication via collaboration software.
- Ensure compliance with CDM, SHE, and quality standards throughout project activities.
- Administer contracts in line with selected contract options and clauses.
- Support labour forecasting, cost allocation, and project setup with site managers and QSs.
- Procure materials and subcontract services, and manage subcontractor performance.
- Provide technical supervision of engineering personnel and design integration.
- Lead design development reviews and technical meetings.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable project management experience within the power and energy sector.
- Strong estimating ability aligned with engineering and best practice standards.
- Effective communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong knowledge of commercial practices and practical contract law.
- High level of competence with MS Office and project management software.
- Proven experience managing projects in HV substation environments.
- Flexibility to travel as needed – full UK driving licence.
- Understanding of project lifecycle from optioneering, design, to delivery.
- Solid knowledge and experience of NEC4 contracts and project planning tools.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of HSE, QA systems, CDM requirements, and compliance.
- Experience with Primavera P6 and programme development.
- Understanding of temporary works, low voltage electrical design, and HV transmission.
- Familiarity with engineering and construction management principles.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Project Management.
- Electrical/Electronic Engineering qualifications (HNC, ONC, City & Guilds).
- NEC4 Project Management Accreditation (preferred).
