Commissioning Project Engineer – Permanent Role

Location: Main office base in Stone, Staffordshire – with regular trips to Cheshire office required and frequent UK site travel

Salary: Up to £52,000 per annum

Working Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, within core hours)

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time. Existing eligibility to work / valid UK VISAs will be needed in advance of applications to the client.

A leading engineering solutions provider is seeking a Commissioning Project Engineer to bridge the gap between project delivery and commissioning. This hands-on role focuses on ensuring all systems are ready for commissioning or FAT handover, with complete documentation and compliance to strict safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project managers and teams to ensure systems meet all pre-commissioning requirements
  • Act as the main liaison between project delivery and commissioning teams
  • Review and verify commissioning packs, RAMS, as-builts, test certificates, and operational documentation
  • Participate in or oversee functional tests (e.g., loop checks, valve sequencing, pressure tests)
  • Align commissioning schedules and resolve bottlenecks
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure readiness
  • Identify and resolve technical or procedural issues early
  • Support quality control and ensure compliance with company and client expectations
  • Identify risks, contribute to assessments, and improve handover processes

Secondary Duties

  • Attend meetings and relevant training
  • Support Sales in technical input and costing for project enquiries
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Projects, and Service & Commissioning teams

Essential Requirements

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related discipline
  • 3+ years' experience in project engineering, commissioning, or field engineering in gas infrastructure or energy projects
  • Strong understanding of control systems and gas metering principles
  • Familiarity with UK gas industry codes and compliance
  • Skilled in reviewing technical drawings and documentation
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Problem-solving mindset and detail-oriented

Desirable

  • Experience with National Gas or GDN projects
  • Knowledge of analyser calibration, metering validations, and biomethane systems
  • Experience with commissioning software/tools
  • People/team management experience
