Instrument Engineer Location: Macclesfield, Cheshire
Rate: £50-£55 per hour
Contract Length: 6 months
Working Arrangements: Hybrid – 3 days on-site, 2 days WFH
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
Role Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Instrument Engineer to support a local projects team by providing instrument design and consulting services within the pharmaceutical sector. This role requires a high level of autonomy, strong communication skills, and a solid technical engineering design background.
Key Responsibilities
Develop instrumentation designs for pharmaceutical projects, including: Upgrade of effluent plant to PLC control Upgrade of process plant to Emerson DCS and functional safety improvements Work closely with the multi-discipline design team and Project Manager to ensure efficient project delivery Review and assess customer requirements, providing accurate resource estimates Produce reports, scope of work, concept designs, and detailed designs (RIBA 2-4) Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 Conduct site surveys and liaise with subcontractors Provide technical leadership and drive performance improvements
Candidate Requirements
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Instrumentation design, ideally within pharmaceutical projects HNC/Degree in an engineering-related discipline Strong knowledge of E&I design best practices and project lifecycle Functional safety experience (IEC 61511) with the ability to produce SIL documentation Compex 12 qualification (desirable) Experience working within a multi-discipline team and liaising with client representatives Familiarity with AutoCAD LT, Navisworks, and Revit (not essential)
