We are currently looking to support our client – a leading UK solutions provider operating across the natural gas, petrochemical, biomethane and decarbonisation sectors.
They are looking for a C&I Engineer to join their Engineering department on a permanent staff basis at their custom built, modern workshop facility at Staffordshire. This will be a full-time hours role working Monday-Friday 9am – 5pm.
A full description is given below but candidates should have a minimum HND qualification together with at least 5 years relevant working experience. They must also be ready and willing to mentor junior engineers within the team. Candidates will work alongside CAD Operators, and other engineers for various needs such as costing. The client deals with state of the art technology creating bespoke materials and products so candidates will need to be innovative open to creating solutions for new challenges. They will require ATEX experience and previous natural gas project experience. Prior experience working for the national grid, Cadent would be beneficial.
A competitive annual salary figure is on offer – £34-54K per annum - negotiable for candidates with additional oil and gas project experience. C&I Design Engineer - What is the role?
As a C&I Design Engineer within our ranks, you will play a pivotal role in reshaping the landscape of the gas sector while advancing your own professional journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the Electrical and Control & Instrumentation elements of project design packages.
- Produce design packs to company specifications and subsequent modifications within the allocated hours for the project.
- Develop C&I design packages for company projects.
- Design power and distribution systems at 415V and below.
- Translate User Requirements Specifications into Functional Design Specifications for company projects.
- Produce Conceptual Design documentation and progress it to detailed design, data sheets, and manufacturing support information.
- Create material specifications (Bill of Materials) for Procurement to source and purchase.
- Undertake value engineering activities to optimise cost and design performance.
- Maintain design records effectively in line with the company's QA system.
- Produce factory acceptance test documentation, installation support information, and commissioning documentation.
- Liaise with various disciplines, including Mechanical, Process, Software, and CAD, to ensure design interfaces are seamless.
- Attend internal meetings regarding design reviews and progress updates to support project delivery.
- Maintain attention to detail by closely monitoring project schedules and costs to identify cost-saving opportunities.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of HNC/HND in Electrical, Control, or Instrumentation Engineering (or a related discipline).
- Knowledge and experience of the design lifecycle within project development.
- Experience working in a structured design engineering environment.
- Previous experience designing for gas distribution/transmission networks, oil & gas, or petrochemical industries.
- Familiarity with Electrical or Control & Instrumentation designs for hazardous area applications (experience with ATEX regulations is a bonus).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, ensuring effective collaboration across teams.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- A BEng in Electrical Engineering.
- Familiarity with gas network formal design processes (e.g., IGEM GL5, National Grid G35, Cadent/NGN G17, SGN PS6).
- Knowledge of Gas Network Design Standards and Specifications.
- Experience with gas measurement, gas or liquid metering systems, gas sampling systems, or gas analysers.
