We’re seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join our client – a leading structural engineering consultancy based in Cheshire – specializing in risk engineering and blast engineering and working on high-profile projects throughout the UK and worldwide against extreme load events.
What You’ll Do
As a Principal Structural Engineer, you’ll be responsible for:
- Engaging with clients to help define project requirements, influence project outcomes and present solutions
- Working collaboratively with project design teams to develop protective design strategies
- Delivering both retained and novated design duties when working on design and build projects (developing outline and detailed performance specifications, monitoring compliance and attending site)
- Supporting Tier 1, 2 and 3 contractors, to ensure construction works comply with project specifications Working with manufacturers to help design and develop new products for market
- Managing project workloads to ensure deliverables are completed on time and to a high quality
- Undertaking and supervising the completion of detailed structural calculations using both linear and non-linear methods and a blend of hand calculations, finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics
- Completing vehicle dynamics assessments for the specification and design of hostile vehicle mitigation Leading and mentoring a team of graduate, project and senior engineers
- Working within the senior management team of the business
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for someone with:
- A relevant civil or structural engineering degree or a background in applied physics
- Chartered engineer status (MICE or MISTructE) or experience capable of passing the chartered professional review
- Proven abilities of leading teams, and working with clients and project professionals to develop innovative solutions to complex problems
- A sound grasp of steel and concrete design in accordance with the Eurocodes and/or UFC 3-340-02
- An ability to manage the commercial aspect of project delivery
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with impeccable attention to detail
- Willingness to undergo UK security vetting at SC level (or above)
Desirable Skills
Knowledge of blast, seismic, or other dynamic analysis. Non-linear finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics expertise. Knowledge of structural design of aluminium or glass Knowledge of hostile vehicle mitigation.
