About the Role
A skilled Senior Instrument Designer is sought to join a dynamic engineering and design team based in Macclesfield, Cheshire. The role involves supporting pharmaceutical projects through Electrical & Instrument Design and consulting services, with a focus on project delivery in line with time, quality, and budget goals.
This position offers the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment, engaging with project managers and the installation team to ensure effective project execution. This role requires three days on-site in Macclesfield each week to facilitate client and team collaboration, with two days working remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with the design team and project manager to support pharmaceutical project delivery. Interpret and respond to client requirements, providing design estimates and producing detailed design documentation in line with RIBA stages 2–4. Develop project scopes, concept designs, and detailed designs, and maintain high standards of quality and compliance in all deliverables. Coordinate and communicate with subcontractors and interface with disciplines including Mechanical, Process, HVAC, and Civil. Regularly liaise with the client and attend site surveys to ensure the project remains aligned with client expectations and compliance standards.
Essential Skills & Experience
Minimum of 5 years in electrical installation design, ideally within the pharmaceutical sector. HNC or Degree in a related engineering field; professional membership is desirable. Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and experience across project life cycles (from concept through construction). Proficiency in hazardous area design and experience working within a multi-disciplinary team. Proficient in creating 2D design deliverables, including GAs, equipment layouts, cable and containment diagrams, cable block diagrams, and instrument loop diagrams.
