Senior Buyer – MoD Project
DATS Recruitment is seeking a Senior Buyer on behalf of our client for a major Ministry of Defence (MoD) project. This role is offered as an initial 12-month contract, with the potential to extend up to three years, reviewed annually. The position is based in Christchurch, Dorset, for a minimum of three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), with remote working available for the remaining two days.
Key Details:
- Contract Length: 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to 3 years (annual review)
- Umbrella Rate: £400 - £540 per day (Inside IR35)
- Location: Christchurch, Dorset (3 days in-office, 2 days remote)
- Hours: 37 hours per week
- Security Clearance: SC clearance required
Role Overview:
The Senior Buyer will be a key member of the Vigilant Procurement & Supply Chain team, supporting the Procurement Manager in establishing procurement processes and managing suppliers. This role requires significant experience in MoD procurement processes, ideally within electronic communications and networks.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to implement procurement processes for supplier selection, evaluation, and approval.
- Conduct risk-based assessments of suppliers, using business acumen and external analysis.
- Ensure compliance with EN9100 standards and uphold governance and audit requirements.
- Provide procurement guidance and support to non-Procurement teams, advocating the benefits of structured processes.
- Manage supplier performance and develop improvement strategies.
- Participate in site assessments and support supplier risk mitigation activities.
- Oversee direct reports, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of critical infrastructure.
- Seek out opportunities for continuous improvement in procurement processes.
Experience and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of UK Defence Sector and MoD procurement processes.
- Ability to engage with senior management and escalate issues appropriately.
- In-depth understanding of legal, regulatory, and contractual procurement requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders, manage supplier risks, and drive performance improvements.
- Proven track record in delivering procurement support that aligns with business objectives.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage challenging situations and underperformance effectively.
- Proactive approach to improving procurement processes and contributing to the team’s success.
