We’re currently supporting our client in Greater Manchester with a requirement for a HV Fitter (Switchgear) to join their site services team, working across the UK and Internationally to carry out the installation, modification, and maintenance of switchgear, transformers and electrical distribution equipment.

This is a permanent placement with an innovative and growing company, and salaries are negotiable dependant on experience.

Your role as a HV Fitter:

As a HV Fitter, you’ll be vital to our client's site services team, handling a range of tasks on substation equipment including installation, maintenance, and fault investigation.

With expertise in HV asset management, you’ll operate across sites in the Northwest and beyond. You’ll help maintain high voltage equipment and perform transformer oil sampling and analysis, adapting quickly to client needs. Following maintenance manuals, you’ll lead field service teams, embodying our safety-focused ethos and promoting a positive workplace culture. Strong communication skills are key, as is a commitment to safety and integrity. Flexibility for national and international travel is essential due to client shutdowns.

HV Fitter responsibilities:

  • Install, refurbish, maintain, and fault find substation plant and equipment
  • Install control and protection equipment, earthing systems, and outdoor equipment
  • Maintain high voltage equipment and perform transformer oil sampling and analysis
  • Provide technical support to colleagues and customers
  • Ensure timely completion of work, adhering to schedule and budget
  • Prioritise health, safety, environment, and quality practices
  • Fulfil safety roles and mentor less experienced staff
  • Maintain accurate records and lead team efforts
  • Foster strong customer relationships and identify new service opportunities.

HV Fitter skills:

  • A minimum of 4 years in a similar position within the industry or qualified at NVQ Level 3 as a minimum
  • A strong background in Electrical Engineering with a thorough knowledge of switchgear maintenance and installation
  • Experience of working on transmission equipment
  • Competency with Microsoft suites including Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Knowledge and experience with retrofitting of LV and HV switchgear is advantageous
  • Strong people skills and experience in managing internal & external relationships
  • Ability to read and interpret technical CAD drawings is required
  • Management capabilities and ability to help develop junior project engineers within the team
  • Full UK Driving License is required
