We’re currently supporting our client in Greater Manchester with a requirement for a Test And Quality Engineer (FAT) to join their team.

This is a permanent placement with an innovative and growing company, and salaries are negotiable dependant on experience.

Your role as a Test And Quality Engineer (FAT):

As an internal Test and Quality Engineer, you are responsible for undertaking factory acceptance testing of LV equipment to maintain high-quality controls across our client's manufacturing department.

You will work closely with the Workshop Supervisor and wider production and design teams to undertake stringent quality checks at the final point of production, ensuring the proper functioning of the equipment, manufactured in compliance with the technical drawings provided.

You will be expected to apply robust problem-solving methodologies to ensure the continual improvement of product and process, proactive resolution of customer complaints, issues and non-conformances. As part of the FAT process, you will be expected to troubleshoot issues and support assembly technicians in root cause analysis so that the team can undertake the appropriate corrective measures.

You will be responsible for following the company’s HSEQ procedures to ensure the safety of persons and property in the working area.

Test And Quality Engineer (FAT) responsibilities:

  • Delivering workshop activities in line with the Company’s service and manufacturing portfolio
  • To be able to safely connect unit(s) to the mains power supply ensuring all requirements and protocols are being adhered to
  • Read and understand schematic and GA drawings
  • Primary Injection Testing
  • CT Test & VT Test
  • Secondary Injection Testing
  • Ductor Testing & HV pressure testing
  • Secondary wiring insulation Test Megger and 2KV
  • Load PSL and validate
  • Full Scheme Functionality Testing
  • Prepare and perform Factory Acceptance Test with the customer
  • Ensure the closing of detected issues (Snag list) and share with Project Manager
  • Professionally interact with the customer during the FAT in a line with R&B’s core values
  • Demonstrate excellent electrical fault finding and rectifications skills, along with good commercial awareness skills to provide top level customer service and technical support
  • Perform function testing of control circuits on relay panels, transformer, and circuit breakers
  • Proactively identify potential equipment failures and request proactive corrective actions
  • Utilizing drawings and standards work with suppliers to ensure conformance and on time incident closure
  • Evaluating operational systems and recommending improvements to eliminate causes of malfunctions

Test And Quality Engineer (FAT) skills:

  • Experience of problem-solving DMIA, PDCA methodologies to ensure the continual improvement of product and process
  • Technical/mechanical/electronic engineering expertise for new product design and introduction to the manufacturing process
  • Experience of working in cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Attention to detail
  • At least 3 years’ hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and testing.
  • Knowledge of: HV and LV switchgear, and associated equipment e.g  circuit breakers, fuses, arresters, switches, automation and insulated power cables, Power transmission and distribution systems
  • Ability to read and understand schematic, GA drawings, Electrical prints and single-line diagrams to ensure conformance and on time incident closure
  • Experience with metering instrumentation hardware and software
  • Experience with a Quality Management System to conduct periodical system audits to ensure compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • BEng or equivalent in electronics/mechanical engineering
  • Able to safely connect unit(s) to mains power ensuring all requirements and protocols are being adhered to
  • Primary & Secondary Injection Testing, CT Test & VT Test, Ductor Testing & HV pressure testing
  • A High capability in Electrical & Mechanical fault finding, with High level of PC literacy – MS Excel

Preferred but not essential: 

  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practice and industry performance standards
  • Excellent time management
  • Experience of developing and managing systems such as ISO 9001, 14001 & 18001/45001 through accredited bodies
