Process Development Engineer – R&D, Automotive Glass Manufacturing
Location: Lancashire
Salary: £33,000 – £42,000 per annum + Benefits
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

A leading global glass manufacturing group is seeking a Process Development Engineer to join its Shaping Technology team within the Glazing Technology Group, part of the company’s Global R&D function. Based at the European Technical Centre in Lancashire, this role involves supporting process innovation for automotive glass production across global operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of industrial glass manufacturing processes for the global automotive market.

  • Apply data analysis and digitalisation techniques to identify process trends and quality improvement opportunities.

  • Conduct practically led development activities, using innovative thinking to improve environmental performance, quality, and efficiency.

  • Gain knowledge of automotive glass specifications and contribute to technical support functions.

  • Work within the R&D stage-gate project system, collaborating with global R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering teams.

  • Develop capability to lead R&D projects in shaping technology.

  • Travel globally as required for process development and support.

Candidate Requirements

Personal Attributes:

  • Proactive interest in technology and innovation.

  • Customer-focused with strong communication skills.

  • Willingness to travel globally for extended periods.

Technical Background:

  • Degree in Mechanical/Materials Engineering or a Physical Science.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, with knowledge of process control strategies.

  • Proven background in Process or Product Development, or Quality Control.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience analysing large datasets.

  • Familiarity with digital tools and digitalisation in R&D contexts.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.

  • European language skills (advantageous, not essential).
