DATS Engineering is working on behalf of a leading engineering solutions provider to recruit a skilled Lead Project Manager for critical upgrades to the National Electrical Infrastructure. This role offers an exciting opportunity to oversee and deliver complex, multi-discipline design and build projects, managing a team of project managers and engineers to achieve successful project outcomes.
About the Role
As a Lead Project Manager, you will take direct responsibility for the delivery of several key projects, ensuring that they meet contractual obligations on time and within budget. You will be accountable for managing multi-disciplinary teams and coordinating activities, including planning, engineering, procurement, quality, and commercial functions. You will drive the implementation of clear, actionable plans to successfully execute projects with a focus on managing change evolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage several complex, multi-discipline projects up to £5m, ensuring all contractual obligations are met on time and within budget. Lead and coordinate a team of project managers and engineers to deliver projects effectively and efficiently.
- Oversee commercial, technical, and quality aspects of the projects.
- Create, maintain, and drive progress against project programmes, identifying risks and deviations from the plan.
- Ensure timely submission and negotiation of extensions, variations, and claims.
- Conduct regular project reviews to manage costs, track progress, and control risks.
- Prepare detailed estimates and liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations for tender documents.
- Contribute to the financial performance of projects by applying innovative and efficient technical solutions.
- Lead client meetings and attend project kick-off, site visits, and review meetings, ensuring effective communication within the team.
- Provide weekly and monthly reports to senior management and clients.
- Maintain strong client relationships and monitor client commercial collaboration software.
- Ensure compliance with CDM, SHE, and Quality standards and project safety regulations.
- Administer contracts in line with contract options and relevant clauses.
- Support the site manager with labour forecasting and assist the QS with project setup and cost allocations.
- Procure materials, manage subcontractors, and ensure integration of design across all project disciplines.
- Oversee a team of engineering personnel to deliver successful project outcomes.
- Actively contribute to design development and review meetings.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in estimating packages of work to the highest standards within the power and energy industry.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, enabling you to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of commercial practices, including contract law application.
- Proficient in MS Office and Project Management Tools.
- Experience managing and controlling projects in High Voltage (HV) substation environments.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer and supplier sites.
- Extensive experience in Project Management and hands-on use of NEC4 Contracts.
- Strong knowledge of planning software and project cycle management from optioneering to design and build.
Desirable Skills
Knowledge of HSE systems, QA systems, CDM requirements, Primavera P6, and temporary works. Experience in low-voltage electrical design and HV transmission. NEC4 Project Management Accreditation.
