Description

Job Title: Health & Safety Advisor Location: Belfast (Northern Ireland)

Contract: Minimum 6-month fixed-term, 38-46 hours per week

Rate: £52.50 per hour (umbrella contract, inside IR35)

Purpose: We are seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to ensure the achievement of excellent health and safety management within our client’s organisation. You will provide professional health and safety advice across the company, supporting the effective management of health and safety requirements and ensuring compliance with all statutory and regulatory regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure workplace risk assessments, health and safety inspections, and audits are carried out to the highest quality standards.
  • Provide health and safety advice to all employees to ensure successful implementation and achievement of Health & Safety Management in line with both the annual Group Health & Safety Policy and Health and Safety Manual.
  • Investigate incidents thoroughly, establish root causes, and implement recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
  • Actively participate in both group and individual business unit 45001 audits.
  • Liaise with external agencies to ensure all policies, procedures, and practices meet statutory and legislative procedures.
  • Conduct regular health and safety inspections and audits at selected offices and operating sites, providing clear and concise audit documentation.
  • Communicate any health and safety non-conformances to the Responsible Person at each location and ensure they are resolved before departure if they pose a serious risk.
  • Continuously update and refresh the Health & Safety Management File, ensuring employees are trained in the operation and understanding of their individual files.
  • Attend project Kick-Off and Close-Out Meetings when required, both internally and client generated.
  • Introduce new ideas and innovations into the Health & Safety Management System and communicate these within the organisation.
  • Prepare project-specific Construction Phase Plans as needed.
  • Attend Client Health and Safety Meetings to represent the company when requested.
  • Deliver relevant training courses and presentations to employees.
  • Advise and coach staff on cultural, behavioural, and occupational health and safety issues, including wellbeing and health surveillance.
  • Promote the company’s core values, including the "Safest Way" approach.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong working knowledge of relevant statutory and legislative health and safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with insurance legislation and practices.
  • Knowledge of QA systems and compliance.
  • Well-developed people management and communication skills, including performance management, coaching, and staff development.
  • Proficient IT skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation and with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development, such as IOSH certification or equivalent.

Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent as a minimum requirement.
  • Proven track record of providing excellent health and safety services.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, and professional presentation skills.

Special Features:

  • You may be required to attend Health and Safety meetings and spend time away from home, as our operations are undertaken throughout the UK.
