Turner/Machinist – Shop Floor Role

Rate: £17.30 per hour Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday – Thursday, 06:30 am – 4:15 pm, including lunch and breaks)
About the Role
We have a vacancy for a shop floor staff role within an established engineering team. This position involves manufacturing precision parts using a conventional centre lathe, alongside operating milling and drilling machines. You will also oversee or operate CNC machines and carry out assembly and fitting work to ensure high-quality production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Precision Turning: Operate a conventional centre lathe to manufacture and refurbish precision parts.
- Milling & Drilling: Work with conventional milling and drilling machines for new part production and repair.
- Assembly & Fitting: Assemble components to engineering drawings, adjust parts for precision, and conduct functional testing.
- CNC Operation: Assist with feeding and minding CNC machines (programming experience is advantageous but not essential).
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to manufacturing and productivity enhancements.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure safe operation of machinery and adherence to safety regulations.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
- Experience with conventional machine tools (lathe, milling, drilling).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Competence in using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, vernier calipers).
- Knowledge of safe working practices in an engineering environment.
Desirable:
- Completed a relevant apprenticeship with supporting qualifications.
- 5+ years' experience in precision machining and fitting.
- Exposure to CNC machines (feeding, minding, or programming).
