Our client operating in the UK defence sector has an open requirement for a Mechanical Designer / Hardware Engineer to join them on a contract basis starting as soon as possible and running until the end of August 2025 (further extensions may be possible).
Candidates must possess existing Security Clearance, either at SC or Basic level clearance status. Applications without this will not be able to be considered by our client. This is also strictly an inside IR35 contract offering a rate of £50 per hour PAYE basic (£57.27 inc. holiday pay or equivalent umbrella rate around £66 per hour).
The role will be based out of an office in Dorset, UK. Full time hours apply and some remote working is available but Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday must be office based. There is no negotiability on this. A description is given below but candidates must possess experience in the defence and /or electronic industries.

Technical Requirements
- Qualification in mechanical engineering.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD packages such as Siemens NX or Solidworks.
- Sound knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices.
- Experience of designing sheet metal, machined parts and assemblies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Experience with cable routing and management.
- Attentive to detail and critically minded.
Desirable Technical Requirements
- A basic understanding of electronics.
- FEA, CFD simulation experience.
- Experience with designing for EMC compliance
- Experience with designing for military usage.

- Design and development of packaging & mounting arrangements for COTS items.
