Description

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in mechanical analysis and design? We are looking for a talented individual to join a dynamic engineering team in Bolton, where you will play a key role in evaluating mechanical systems, components, and structures. Your expertise in sheet metal engineering and experience in the same industry will be highly advantageous for this role.

This is a full-time position with a 37-hour working week, Monday to Thursday. The role offers a competitive salary range of £35K - £40K per annum, depending on your level of experience.

Mechanical Engineer (FEA Analysis) - Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce hand calculations and FEA analysis for mechanical, structural, thermal, fatigue, acoustic, shock, and blast assessments.
  • Ensure calculations are accurate, concise, and account for all lifecycle factors before submission for analysis checking.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineers to ensure designs, models, and drawings accurately reflect the theoretical analysis, advising on necessary modifications.
  • Prepare written reports, presentations, and calculation documents for customer approval.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance departmental technical capabilities and efficiency.
  • Contribute to R&D activities and propose innovative design solutions for bespoke works.
  • Provide technical support for projects and liaise with customers when required.
  • Ensure project timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as timesheet submissions, holiday requests, and 1-2-1 preparations.

 

Mechanical Engineer (FEA Analysis) - Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience:

Essential:

  • HND in Engineering with at least 5 years' experience in producing calculations and analysis, or a Bachelor’s degree (BEng Hons) in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering) with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to generate hand and software-based calculations in line with industry design standards (e.g., British Standards, Eurocodes).
  • Strong understanding of load paths, failure modes, and operating limits of steel structures/components.
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical reports and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to work overtime when required to meet project deadlines.
  • Experience in sheet metal engineering and working within the same industry is a significant advantage.

 

Desirable:

  • Proficiency in ANSYS FEA software, Autodesk 3D Inventor, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Vault.
  • Knowledge of welding types, strengths, and limitations, as well as tolerance stacking and practical applications.
  • Awareness of performance testing standards and the principles of drive/control systems.
  • Aiming to become a Chartered Engineer.
  • SC clearance or the ability to obtain it.
