Our client based in Surrey requires a Technical Writer to work in their Business Development Group supporting bids and proposals. This will be working on an initial 6 month contract role starting as soon as possible. Further extensions may well be possible.

The role will be full time and office based in Surrey but with the flexibility to allow up to 2 days per week (maximum) to be worked from home/remotely. Limited company contractors will be able to operate as the role has been determined outside of IR35. Rates have not been confirmed but are believed to be in the region of £45 per hour.

Job Summary:

Working alongside senior engineering project execution SMEs, support the creation, editing, and updating of technical proposal/bid documentation for energy security and energy transition engineering projects.

This role will require collaboration with engineers, sales and business development leads, commercial staff, and other stakeholders to ensure complex technical information is communicated clearly and effectively within proposal / bid written submissions to clients.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Documentation Creation: Develop and write proposal/bid technical submissions which clearly articulate the engineering solutions required to solve the challenges set by the client in their Invitation to Tender (ITT) documentation.  

Collaboration: Work closely with project delivery SMEs, engineering discipline leads and cost estimators to gather information and understand the technical aspects of technological solutions, products, systems, and engineering project team structures.

Editing and Proofreading: Review and edit content for accuracy, clarity, brevity, and consistency.

Visual Aids: Create diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to complement written content.

Content Management: Maintain and update a library of standard proposal/bid technical documentation, ensuring all materials are current and accessible to support future referencing.

Quality Assurance: Implement document revision control measures and ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.

 

Preferred Attributes:

Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise documentation.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple proposal/bid submission simultaneously.

Familiarity with content management systems and document control processes.

This role is crucial for ensuring that technical information is accessible and understandable for both technical and non-technical audiences

 

Qualifications / Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Technical Writing, Communications, or a related field.

Experience: Proven experience as a proposal / bid  writer, preferably in an engineering or manufacturing environment.

Skills: Ability to rapidly collate outline concepts from stakeholders and develop full responses to ITT documentation.

Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in persuasive / technical writing tools and software.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of engineering concepts and terminology, preferably within the energy sector.
