What does the job involve?  

The main purpose of the role Senior Analytical Chemist will be to define and deliver a variety of process, product and environmentally related analytical investigations in support of the client’s production, commercial and SHE requirements. To provide robust analytical and technical service expertise to production / environmental managers, technical service managers and external customers

Other duties include;  

  • Critically assess measurements undertaken in the laboratory or on plant and take action to address anomalies to ensure business decisions are based on robust data.
  • Develop, trial and validate new analytical methods to resolve problems and improve the overall technical capability of the business.
  • Develop and sustain Analytical Science knowledge and use this knowledge to advise SHE, production and commercial managers to meet SHE, production and commercial objectives.
  • Coach, train and validate analytical and process staff in analytical techniques and methodology to improve their basic understanding and technical ability.
  • Maintain and calibrate more complex analytical instrumentation to ensure business decisions are based on robust data.
  • Carry out sampling and analysis on all environmental and Occupational Health samples

What skills and experience do you need?

  • Working knowledge of a wide range of analytical chemistry techniques with in depth expertise in at least one.
  • Project Management experience.
  • The experience of working on a COMAH site. The majority of the work areas are covered by the COMAH regulations were toxic, flammable and corrosive products are manufactured.
  • The job holder has to ensure that all project work takes into account and manages these risks.
  • When working on other sites, including those of customers, the job holder is often the person who has to access and manage any additional and unexpected hazards
