Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an M&E Building Services contractor based in Greater Manchester. This is an opportunity to work for a well-established, forward thinking company with superb growth plans. What does the job involve?

This is key appointment within the company and will include a varied workload including;

  • Work closely with the estimating team to prepare outline designs against performance specifications to enable pricing of tenders
  • Evaluate performance specifications and propose alternative cost saving design options where possible
  • Assist in the evaluation of quotations returned from suppliers and specialist contractors
  • Co-ordination design activities from commencement of a project through to completion
  • Prepare calculations, design drawings, technical submittals and specifications as required to meet the project scope definition
  • Prepare working drawings to meet contract requirements with specific detail to enable execution of the works eg. provision of invert levels, setting out etc
  • Provide technical support to the operations and site team
  • Liaise and monitor specialist sub-contractors to ensure that all necessary working drawings and details required for procurement and installation are provided in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with the contract requirements, including all statutory and industry standards
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements of CDM, including undertaking risk assessments.
  • Attend a range of project and technical meetings with the client design teams, builders and specialist contractors
  • Provide advice to clients and architects on minimising energy use and the environmental impact
  • Manage and forecast design hours to ensure the project is delivered on time, to budget and to the client’s satisfaction
  • Attend site to check standards of workmanship and materials being used in the construction

What skills and experience do you need?

  • A capable design engineer fully competent in all aspects of the design of HVAC Building Services with a minimum of 7 years active experience within a design role
  • Preferably from a D&B Contractor background but will consider a consultancy background dependant on experience
  • Able to demonstrate project experience covering a broad range of sectors with the ability to take a lead role in the mechanical design for the business
  • Be proficient in the use of Hevacomp
  • Hold a recognised qualification in mechanical building services design, ideally a minimum of HNC
