We are seeking a Civil/Structural Design Manager to join a team of Multidisciplinary Engineers and Designers based in the Greater Manchester. What does the job involve?

Reporting to the Architectural Manager and working under minimal supervision and with an aptitude to multi-task and self-starting, you will be responsible for:

  • Engaging with supply-chain service providers to review/approve their design deliverables for tenders and projects according to programme, budget, Quality Assurance procedures and relevant technical Standards / Codes
  • Liaise with client in the development of project briefs, scope of works, etc
  • Collaborate with teams and individuals to identify innovative approaches and techniques to advance our technical capability to the highest standard
  • Use relevant specialist software viewing packages
  • Accountable for interacting with internal clients and supply-chain partners
  • Input to planning activities and the production of accurate delivery programmes and control design deliverables
  • Makes effective decisions and escalate issues when required
  • Implement sustainability and environmental design reviews as appropriate.
  • Assist in compiling quantified design risk and opportunity registers including mitigation
  • Involved in tender/project meetings and design reviews
  • Conversant with industry-wide IMS / QA systems and complies

What skills and experience do you need?

  • Civil Engineering or related degree or equivalent.
  • Chartered or approaching Chartered status would be an advantage
  • Working knowledge of functional area through 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • Proven understanding of specialist design and software packages including CAD/3D BIM Models
  • Understands the value engineering process, including impact of other disciplines
  • Understands checking/approval processes required by 3rd parties
  • Has an understanding of normal contract conditions used in discipline and their key clauses
